    I took a 6 point tonight, I’ll get pics tomorrow. After dragging him uphill through deadfall I was glad he wasn’t any bigger. Trying to get him in the back of my truck after the drag had to look like the three stooges at their best. Got him home, hung, skinned and quartered, and what’s left of him is resting in the cooler till tomorrow.  I took out his heart and he went about 50 yards before running smack into a tree. He hit it so hard he snapped off an antler and if my arrow hadn’t of killed him I think the impact with the tree would have.{#emotions_dlg.mathews_cool}

    Nice!!!! we sure need the points.
    So here is were I am team. I for the first time in my life I had the best two weeks of the hunt off. Early last month I fell at work and hurt my back. I was starting to feel good 10 days ago, then when my vacation started, I got out of bed a week ago Friday, my first day off, all set and loaded for camp. When I got up, it was if a mule kicked me in the back. I finaly got out to hunt last Wed. Sat in my ground blind and had a small buck, and then a nice doe come in. I tried to draw my bow on the doe and could not draw my bow. I came home and have doctored myself to the best I can. I just took my back up Z-7 that I have set at about 52# and I use for small game hunting. This is now my back up bow and if I can not draw the other “Z” I will bring out the back-up. I am heading out tomorrow about noon, and as I stated to the wife, I will come home when I have meat and not before!!!!!!!!!!

    Hang in there, Ron. {#emotions_dlg.mathews_thumbs_up}

    So far my season has been super slow.  While I see big buck sign all over, I have yet to see one.  Only two doe and both out of range.  I plan to get out twice this week and plan to sit late morning until dark.

    I’m sorry to hear your not 100% yet Ron. Actually it doesn’t sound like your running at 50%. Don’t pressure yourself too much. Take it easy and don’t make it worse.

    I have been struggling this year. I got that doe Nov 5th and since then it seems all my stands are going cold.
    I have been staying out of my brothers 30 acre property and letting my Dad have it all to himself for the last month. It the only place he has to hunt or can hunt because of his health. I finally went over there Sunday night and hunted a spot that he can’t get to. The wind was perfect, but there was one run that I hoped that if a deer was headed my way it wouldn’t be on it. Well as luck would have it, a 130 class 10 pt decides to use that run to make his way to my brothers fields. He gets behind me, down wind, and busts me. Dang it… I’m still thinking about it and trying to come up with a plan on how to get a crack at him.
    I have tomorrow off and plan on hunting a different area in the morning and move a stand. I’ll come with a game plan for that buck this weekend.
    Good luck guys, be safe.

    Hey Guys
    I didn’t bag the big 10 point but on Tuesday I shot a good 4 point..
    I was only in may stand about 45 minutes and this buck came walking into my shooting lane.. At 18 yards I grunted him to a stop, touched the release and 50 yeads later he piled up..
    I hunt this really big valley. and  I have a game cart, but let me tell ya, those things are great going across flat ground or up slight inclines, but they are still a son of a gun going up steep hills.. But it was still better than dragging..

    Opening Day in New Yorks Southern Zone gun season was Saturday 11-16..

    I  have a lease in an area that allows rifles, so I packed up my 30-06 and planned an all day sit.
    I saw 9 different deer by 10 am..  I didn’t see anything again until 2pm..
    I had a buck tag and a Doe permit for that area  and I decided if another good doe came by I would fill my permit.
    I had yet to see a buck on a doe this entire season. At 2 o’clock I hear a deer trotting toward me, I grab the gun, a doe popps out of the scrub apples.  I grunted her to stop and took the shot. I hit her solid taking out the heart. she ran 40 yards and dropped in sight.
    20 seconds later I hear a another deer and some grunting.. Sure enough it’s a buck and he was on her trail.. I tried to stop him but he wanted nothing to do with that.  He ended up finding the doe and he wouldn’t leave her alone, even though she was dead.. He hung around her for about 20 minutes never offering me a shot. (There were some small scrub apple tree tops in between us). He finally deceided she wasn’t going to give him what he wanted and started to leave. When he did, he walked into an opening about 40 yards away. I grunted, he stopped, I shot, he dropped..
    Holy crap now I have 2 deer to get out of the wood. One of the guys in my lease had a 4 wheeler so all I had to do was to get the deer to a trail.  After an hour of dragging that task was complete.. It was 4 o’clock by the time I got the deer to the trail and pulled my tree stand so I waited for dark before I headed to the truck.. I didn’t want to mess up anyone else’s hunt walking out of the woods.5pt and Doe #2 11-16-13

    5pt 11-16-13

    He’s a 5 pt. He has one broken tine (G3) and no brow tine on his left side and a 3/4″ brow tine on his right..
    He’s still a beautiful 2-1/2 year old..  Field dressed 140 lbs on my scale..
    I only have one permit left, but it’s for my brothers property and we aren’t taking does there, so basically my season is over…

    Be safe.
