Pretty uneventful last week with the rut in my area. No chasing yet and no sightings of mature bucks on their feet during the day light hours. Still getting pics of bucks at night but Sunday things started to pick up with young bucks chasing. My buddy was able to connect with our #1 hit list buck CrabClaw yesterday morning. He was a 7 1/2yr old buck that we have pics and sheds from since 2009. I am seriously jealous but am extremely happy that my friend was able to seal the deal. The buck was on the downward slide as far as his body size but the rack was pretty much the same as his 2012 rack. We rough scored him at 161 1/8″ gross. This buck was a true warrior of the area and we are and have been seeing signs of younger bucks that have his genetics.

Still have one other mature at least 5 1/2yr old in the area and hope to catch up with him or maybe another buck that could show up.

Boy he’s a nice one Ritch! Good luck on tagging the other one. I was out the last couple days. Seen a few doe and one small buck. Seen a shooter right at dark tonight but out of range. It was about 15 degrees and snowing all day. I hunted from 6 this morning till dark. Had a mountain lion tracking me at one point. Found his tracks on top of mine as I was walking out.
