Now that we can access the forum through Tapatalk, I’ll be able to post updates from my phone.
We had a great hatch down here and the jakes are runnin crazy. My dad and brother have been able to put birds on the ground but I haven’t been so lucky. I have been covered up in birds but for one reason or another, I can’t close the deal. Hopefully my luck changes.
I’ll update after we get settled in this evening. Stay tuned
The birds hit the field earlier than usual (6:55). We watched 7 jakes, 3 hens, and a nice longbeard land about 100 yards from our setup. For the next 30 minutes we watched them work their way outta site. The 2 big gobblers that have been givin me fits the last few weeks entered the far southern corner of the field right around 7:20. As I was peakin out the back of the blind watching them slowly heading our way, my buddy told me that the jakes were coming back.
As I looked out towards the front of the blind, I saw 3 birds about 20 yards out….2 jakes and a longbeard. It didn’t take long and they were in the decoys. The gobbler stood face to face with my jake decoy when the 100gr bullhead put him down. Everything was caught on camera and the GoPro was in perfect position.
The bird is lackin in the beard category but it sportin some nice hooks. Definitely one of the older birds of the group. I’m guessing he was a run down 3-4 yr old.
