Since when is a 17 yo kid in a Phillies t-shirt with a rally towel such a threat to national security? Don’t get me wrong, I hate the Phillies as much as the next guy but come on.

Maybe we outta start tazing j walkers and people with more than one unpaid parking ticket too. After all, you never know what their true intentions are until you drop ‘em and cuff ‘em. Just sayin…

How did the LEO know that he was 17? If you can tell on the run then you can judge better than me. Could have been older. The older I get the younger they look.

Let him ride the lighting!! :D

I agree with Clay as the taser is a little harsh!

In the pictures I have seen the kid is smiling from ear to ear so what did the police officer see!

I see an over weight cop that cannot run in the pictures also!

If it was a national security issue they would have shot him ;)

So is the issue for you the fact the kid is 17? He is old enough to follow directions and clearly know right from wrong. Had he followed the instructions 1: Stay off the field! Which he knew was wrong heck he even called his dad to see what he thought 2:When he was dumb enough to break rule one had he followed the LEO’s orders to stop and get on the ground he wouldn’t have been tased.

Problem is you don’t know what else he has on him or his intentions. There is no guarantee he’s not carrying a weapon.[/quote:34ewd3oc]

I guess I’m just a little surprised at the reaction to this poll. True, the kid had no business on the field. True, he should have stopped when ordered to do so. I don’t argue either of those points. Just seems to me this has been blown way out of proportion.

From my perspective, it was a teenage kid pulling a teenage prank. It’s not like he knocked over a liquor store or attacked a player. He didn’t brandish a weapon or threaten anyone. Heck, he called to ask his dad for permission. $100 says he would’ve gone peacefully if they’d cornered him. A pair of tight cuffs and a night in the cooler would have done the trick.

I know I pulled my share of bonehead manuvers at that age. Probably earned a ride downtown more than once, but back in that day everyone understood that boys will be boys. JMHO

I gotta admit…..I’m with you on this one Brad (all except the part about pulling bonehead moves at that age :^o ). But, I guess we’re definitely in the minority here.

They need to put guard towers on the foul poles and have snipers up there with high powered tazer rifles, just in case someone should have the tenacity to violate the sanctity of the game 8-|

They could have the field ringed with a security squad armed with RPG’s. Baseball wouldn’t be so boring anymore… ;)

hey guys he got what he deserved.
yall know im an LEO, im a certified taser instructor, have been tased
10+ times. it sucks for the 5 seconds that your getting lit up. but after
that no probs. yes people have died after being tased, but not from the taser directly it was from an underlying cause, mostly illegal drugs.

in most depts. the taser is low on the list when it comes to use of force.

my dept all you have to do is not follow verbal instructions, and by policy we can deploy the taser. but you still have to use good judgement on when to deploy.

but, i would have let him ride the lightning too.
thats what all the cool toys on our batman belt
are for. to stop someone doing something stupid, by using
    the least amount of force.

If 5 guys would have dog piled the guy and then dragged
him off the field, we would have been having a discussion about
why it took 5 guys couldnt 2 guys have done the job.

    So………..

if an idiot runs out on your fave team’s field and your favorite multi-million dollar player goes for hero status, tackles the attention seeker and blows out a knee or elbow in the incident, right before the World Series…… you non taser folks would be cool with that?

Security folks at the field have tasers. They aren’t hidden. Be a moron, get tased. Seems rather obvious the risk.

Hmmmm, let’s see. You have a person who is clearly breaking the law, chased and confronted by security personnel, and is smiling from ear to ear. What would I see? Possibly a crazy person! Security people and LEO’s are not mindreaders! They don’t know why a person is behaving like an idiot, just that they are and need to be brought under control.

As far as Clay’s point about the ball players restraining the guy, that’s not their job. Say one of the players tackles the kid and really injures him. Ever hear of lawyers?

Tasers are cheap and effective idiot control. Don’t want to be tazed? Don’t be an idiot and break the law. Very simple really.

BTW, it’s also been shown that the majority of people who have died from tazing were also under the influence of illegal narcotics. That can be a deadly combination!

It's not how far you shoot, but how close you get.

I’m all for it. Idiots today think it’s the police officers role to run and catch them, or wrestle them into submission.

Back when I was growing up we followed police orders, night sticks and black jacks were liberally used when you didn’t.[/quote:17n0sgns] :thumbup

He’s a Phillies fan (probably an Eagles fan too). Probably not the first time he’s been tazed. ;)

    Light him up! :thumbup
