I was reading an article about how much money athletics bring into a University. Some of the big programs make ten’s of millions of dollars off of sport’s program’s.
Alot of the athlete’s are getting a free education out of it, but do you think they should recieve some type of a base pay also.
Just wondering your thought’s on this [=}=]

    ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

Smart students bring a lot of money to universities as well, and I think that is much more important.

College is about a higher education, not athletics. [=}=]

That’s mostly true. I think the worth of a college education should not be overlooked. Look what the added expense of paying for athletes to play would cost universities, alumni, students, fans, etc.

We should look at college athletes first as students. We should not look at them as athletes who happen to be in school.

    I say no.

I think they should get paid a little. Not much, but jsut something to help out with expenses. They way the NCAA has it, they can’t recive ANYTHING! Them athletes have full time jobs that don’t pay. They’re working their buts off at practice and they still have to do good in school. I think they should get a little something. Nothing like what the pros get, just a little bit to help with college expenses.

    Just my take on it.

College athletes are already paid. Primarily in the form of scholarships. And many accrue additional privileges as well. I don’t think they should be paid more unless they sign a 4 or 5-year contract that states they will complete their degree, they will remain with the team and they will not transfer or move on to the pro’s until their obligation is completed. And pay is performance based. Then the University/Conference has a bonafide asset.

Good for the goose, good for the gander.

Very good point, they are getting offered a 4 year degree for 4 years of service to the team

I think that paying college athletes would be a mistake. It is what keeps the heart and desire in the game not just a paycheck. I played college football for 5 years for a D2 school where I got scholarship money but not a full ride and believe me a check from the school would have been nice but at the same time there isn’t the $$$ in D2 athletics when compared to D1. The BCS is a bigger problem than paying athletes but that’s a whole different subject ](*,)
