Just got back from the local farm co-op. Last year early season Aug, shelled corn was $6.00 50 lbs.
Late season Dec., shelled corn was $8.36 50lbs.

This Aug it’s $9.25 per 50 lbs and the co-op folks say it going to go up.

How much is it in your area?

I am still getting it for $7.50 per 50 lbs. I only run it through end of August for trail camera and then it’s time for the acorns!

Yeah, just checked the commodities and corn has a 73.67% change from last year at this time…gonna be expensive for the ppl that hunt with corn or feed any animals for that matter.

That tends to happen when you take a foodstuff and turn it into an inefficient fuel so we can burn it up in our cars! :thumbdown

It's not how far you shoot, but how close you get.

Or when you have record breaking flooding. The Missouri River consumed many of the country’s best crop producing areas in the U.S.A.

Another bad thing about the price of a sack of corn is it isn’t even a bushel. A bushel of corn at 14% moisture is 56 pounds. I agree with Jeffy also, the floods in some areas, the hot dry weather and the late start to planting for most of us around here are all factors in the current and future corn prices.

I would love to bag and sell 50lb. sacks of corn for $9.50.

yup the drought killed every bit of corn here. Almost all the local corn is for feed. I dont know many farmers off hand that are selling it for ethonol. My cousin lost about 5 or 6000 acres of corn this year from the drought. Luckily he has soy beans and alot of avid bird hunters that will pay to hunt a bushhogged corn field. ;)

I don’t feed my deer, but not that many years ago, (about 8 too 10) we bought it for grinding for the birds we raised at an old farm, Pheasants and Chuckers for dog training, and it cost about $5 a hundred.

I bought 50 # for about $10 at one feed mill.
    Wal-Mart is $9+ for a 40 # bag
    Nearby town was $8+ for 50 #

This increase in prices has resulted in me taking action to avoid corn depletion by non-target species.
In previous years, I’ve simply dumped it on the ground and tried feeders, but both of these methods leave the commodity very exposed.
This year, I went retro using my former more conservative method. Ten years ago (or more) I would use a plastic 4” drain tile duck taped to a tree with a plastic cap on top; they come in about a 10′ length, so cut it in half and you have two feeders. The drain tile cut to about 5′ holds about 40 # of corn and works as a gravity feeder.
