My wife has informed me that she would like a pistol and to learn how to use it… I guess all this media stuff is finally getting to her. I suggested that we each get a pistol of our choice, take a CCW class together (we may or may not actually apply for the permits to carry), and that way we could do it as a couple.

My questions is what weapon do you guys recommend for an adult female? She is about 5’2″ tall and weighs about 115 lbs… I don’t want to get something that she doesnt enjoy shooting… Let’s see what your wives are using…

    Thanks!

Reggie, I have a Kahr P9 that I wear in an ankle holster that I would think would be a fantastic carry gun for a woman. It shoots very well, feeds reliably and conceals nicely. It’s small enough to handle easily, but a bit bigger than some of the ultra-compacts that will feel a bit rougher, especially to a new shooter.

The other option would be something like a S&W Airweight revolver some simplicity.

If she’s going to shoot regularly, I’d look at something like the Karh.

If you want something a little higher on the scale, I’ve seen some nice smaller stuff coming out from Sig. The P250 and P290 are both smaller quality pistols. They are both Double Action only. If her hands are comfortable on the grip, the have a great little P224 (I think that’s the model) that takes a double stack magazine and holds I think 11 rounds of 9mm.

Anyway, just some thoughts. It’s a bit ironic that at the time when everyone is talking about gun control, there are more quality options than ever out there! :thumbup

I would HIGHLY suggest you get her to a range, hopefully you have one that rents guns near you or you have some buddies with different sizes and calibers, and let her test as many as possible to find the right one for her.

Has she ever shot a gun before?

If she doesn’t know much about guns let her try a .38 revolver. Can’t go wrong with a revolver, just aim and pull the trigger. No safety to miss or having to worry about the safety getting accidentally bumped off.

She has been around guns a little bit with me… I’ve taken her shooting a couple of times but I don’t own any handguns (yet!) so she has never fired one.

I like the idea of the revolver for her… That S&W Bodyguard looks pretty nice and won’t break the bank… That means I can spend a little more for my .45 :whistle

My wif eand I both have our CCW. We got them about 2 months after we started dating.

She carries the S&W bodyguard .380,and loves it.
Now that does not meen your wife will like.

It was the one that she could work the slide on the best and
liked having the built in laser sight.

My best suggestion would be make sure she buys a pistol small enough that she will always be comfortable carrying it. I would rather see a woman carry a .22 all the time than carrying a .45 part time. Also a smaller caliber will be more pleasant for her to shoot since it will have less recoil and noise. I just purchased a Ruger LCP and love it. I can conceal it easily no matter what clothes I have on. Its a .380 with 6 shot clip in a very small lightweight polymer frame. The gun is not much bigger than a iPhone in an otter box case. The S&W bodyguard is another nice pocket gun. My friends father in law loves his.

She needs to pick one that FITS her hand the best, she needs to go to a LGS where they have a large selection and handle different brands in the size she wants. Personally if it where my wife i would suggest a Glock G19 or a G26. They are 9mm and you can find a ton of aftermarket acc. I would also put a crimson trace laser on it. easier to access target …as the Glock has the safety in the trigger that is one less step to mess with when you are in a stressful situation…..also buy a ton of ammo and let her shoot it ALOT so she can be familiar with the weapon untill she knows all the functions and it is her best friend…… i also suggest that she seek professonial Traing from a CERTIFIED instructor…… [=}=]
