I’ve visited one of the jails the kid broke out of – he was quite a Houdini – and the location of Pat Garrett’s murder. Love the stories, characters and places of the old west.

He’s dead…the pardon isn’t going to do him any good now, so it is pointless and just a political thing [=}=]

Much bigger fish to fry in the world right now then worry about pardoning a dead person JMHO :-B

It’s difficult for me to imagine on what grounds he would be pardoned. As his descendants said in the article, would anybody be willing to pardon a mass murderer today? Even if one buys the oft-heard argument in today’s society that you can’t judge past actions by current moral standards, I don’t think that applies here. Murder was murder in the 1880s just like it is today.

What’s it going to change – not history – not Billie – not his family – basically nothing—-it’s just a news grabber.

He rode for the brand… they killed his boss, he tried to kill them. if his faction had won, he’d have been a hero instead of an outlaw…

I asked my great-grandad’s brother (great-uncle? :smt69 ) if Billy was as fast as they say. He made a real nasty face and said “He was a %&*@ back shooting coward”. Never said any more than that. So I dunno. Don’t reckon it makes much difference to Billy. Wouldn’t matter much to my uncle right now neither.

The Kid was an early reason for better control of our borders. History books report that every time he’d get in trouble he’d head for MX. He spoke fluent Spanish and the senoritas supposedly loved the guy so he always had hiding places. A while back some historians tried to refute the fact that he was left-handed saying that the only photo(s) of him were tin-type which produced a reverse image. So though he appeared to be a lefty, he was actually right-handed. Sounds to me like the governor of NM is trying the same thing, i.e. reversing his image…..posthumously. 8-|

Why would they even think about doing this :?: :?: :?:

Does the world think that a high profile killer should be pardoned just because a period of time has passed by and the public should accept it.

If so… Then I guess my grand kids will get to see the Columbine killers pardoned in there life. That happened just a mile away from our house.
I don’t want them ever immortalized or look upon as what they did is acceptable.
Our community was stunned and shocked.

Billy the kid :thumbdown Any cold blooded killer :thumbdown
    I vote no ****** way.

Killers do this sort of thing for the fame that comes after.
This would only encourage people to do more random killings.

At this point he’s been judged by his maker. That’s where the rubber meets the road.

Im at the assumption your talking about William H Bonie (Billy the Kid) and not billy clanton (billy the kid). In either event at this point its irrelevant at this point, people only see what history books report or what big screen movies show.

Just remember there are people who were on the wrong side of the law of certain periods of time and made out to be heros. Id be happy to name a few.

One of my favorite heros was Wyatt Earp. However he was wanted for theft of a horse and robbery.

Dare I mention RobinHood? Fact or fable either way, a man that robs from someone and gives to another. A theif is a theif.

I think all of this is based on semantics and not necessarily around facts. The history of W.H. Bonie is sketchy to begin with. There was alot of coruption and killing during the time, and I wasnt there.

Now that being said, in todays society, yeah he was a killer, murder, theif and bandit. As long as what history books reported is true. With all the changes that have been revised over the years in history books, due to being PC who knows whats right or wrong?
