Well, what do you think? To me, it seems like there is too much wasted space so the “reading area” of the page is too small. Just my :2cents

My opinion is we should all just be happy to have the forum, and as long as we can read it and post it looks great. ;)

First of all, I like the new design much better. I like the brighter background and the fact that the forum seems like it’s an integrated part of the whole Mathews site. I’ve spent quite a bit of time on the new site on a 15″ laptop, a 24″ desktop, and a, well…let’s just say larger than life unit. I see fonts that are the same size and very legible and real estate that is close to the same, if not the exact same that it was before.

Secondly, I think that Ricky is spot on. This is a great forum regardless of background and frame size. There’s plenty to be grateful of without stirring up a hornets nest.

It’s got to be hand torque. There is nothing different about the forum layout.

I like the background, but the window is a bit narrow. I’m just glad we have it though ;)

Not saying that I am not happy to have the forum, I am…I guess my eyes just haven’t adjusted to the really light background and narrow text frame [=}=]

This, of course, is THE answer.

I will only add, from my perspective as a semi-pro[/i:283lm7v9] Web designer, that fixed width is generally the desired format over a fluid or flexible width Web page. (I know forums have traditionally been fluid, but even that is changing.) This is mostly because a designer can tightly dictate how content is displayed with a fixed width layout. To many, fluid (changing) width pages make for a “sloppy” feel to a site when viewed at certain resolutions. This is often considered a worse thing than seemingly having too much background showing to the sides.

Obviously, if someone has an enormous, wide screen display then they will really feel there is a lot of “wasted” space. But, as the designer, you desire the control and often go with what the industry standard or most common visitor(s) to your site have as a screen resolution for your fixed width size and live with it. After all, folks with an enormous display and high resolution are surely used to seeing “narrow” sites as most are fixed width no wider than 1024 pixels. (The commonly accepted “standard” today.)

Personally, even on my large flat panel display I do not surf the Web with my browser maximized. I keep it “windowed” and custom sized to nicely display a 1024 width site with a little extra on the sides. This affords me easy access to my desktop and other apps while surfing and also ensures that virtually every site I visit “looks good”.

:2cents (Even though that was more like a dime’s worth.)

Needless to say I voted I like it better now. I will say that if I somehow had a say in it that I would push for even more continuity between the “main site” and forums. The black forum background would become some matching shade of brown from the Reezen-edition home page, for example. But, that’s just me. :)

To me it’s neither here nor there.

Like Ricky said I’m just thankful for this home and appreciate what Mathews does for us by allowing us to have this place to share, thoughts, ideas and info.

If you have a resolution less than 1024×768 you have to scroll left and right now but hey that’s a minor thing and hopefully I’ll be upgrading monitors or computers soon so I can use 1024 setting and still be able to see what I’m reading :-B
