does anyone have any input on which one is better, currently i use the montec g5 100 gr and im pleased but was curious about the rage cuz thats all you see advertised. If I remember right the G5 Montec is a fixed blade right? I have herd good things about the Rage Hypodermic, but other than what I see on the shows, I havent herd either bad or good with the rages. However with the Rage being a mechanical you probably wont get as much penetration with the Rage as you do with your G5 Montec. If you really like G5 and want to go to a mechanical I hear that the G5 T3 is a good Mechanical.. If you go with the Rage let me know how you like them.. I myself got a pack of the NAP Killzone 2inch 100 grain Mechanical just to see how they compare to my Grim Reapersyes the montec g5 is a fixed blade and has great penetration even when ive shot deer directly in the shoulder, i guess im just kinda skeptical about mechanical broadheads.i just think that more moving parts , more chance of a problem and as you probably know theres not alot of room for error in bow hunting. ive seen some of the blood trails from rage broadheads and its looks impressive . guess ill just have to suck it up and try it. thank you for your inputIf you like the fixed blade G5 then don’t pay any attention to all the paid hunters using the Rage broad heads. I have read the pros and cons of the Rage and the pros and cons on fixed bladed heads and the cons are far less with the fixed blade broad heads.
Mechanical type broad heads work just fine and I’m not arguing the pros and cons of them. I’m saying if one type works for you then stick to it by trying maybe a different fixed bladed head like the G5 striker, Slick Trick , QAD exudos or the Trufire T1. I’m sure there are bunch more beyond these few I mentioned that are very sharp out of the bow like these are and tune just like the G5 Montec.
Location: ManitobaStick with the fixed blade if you are shooting 60lbs or less. At 60lbs if you hit the shoulder with a rage, your penetration will not be what you saw with the Montec.I used the Montec G5s at the beginning of last year and it is an awesome fixed blade broadhead. I had awesome penetration with them. Only downside was there really wasn’t that much of a blood trail with them.
BUT if you are wanting to go the 2 blade mechanical route get the NAP Killzones. I have had excellent luck with them this year. All 4 of my deer pass throughs using 60lbs and they leave a devastating hole and huge blood trail.Mathews Switchback 70lbs 28", Easton FMJ 340's, NAP Apache Drop Away, Trophy Ridge Punisher 5, Xfactor F8 Stabilizerthanks guys your input has made me give see some different perspective, any opinions on what to use on predators? If by “predator” you mean coyote, bob cat, etc. and not Mountain Lion, Bear, etc., I’d use some cheap, large cut Mech head … in otherwords, some ‘one-shot’, throw-away head.
