I would end it’s misery and just keep it to myself. What’s a CO going to do?

That what I was thinking, but keeping it PC. ;)

Put it out of its misery. I could never let an animal suffer like that, no matter what the circumstances.

:agree Most Game Wardens are stand up guys, but you never know. You could wind up with one of those “thin pinchers”, who would try to string YOU up for shooting an antlered deer w/an antlerless tag. As for that other post; you try skiffing that deer outta the woods without telling a GW, and you get caught, you in a heap a trouble, boy!

It's not how far you shoot, but how close you get.

I had to put down a small spike two weeks ago. It had been shot with a cedar arrow in the side of its spine and couldn’t use its back legs. It must have been like that for at least a week because the wound was starting to fester, and the arrow head was tarnished. Didn’t mind using a tag for it. I just felt bad it had put up with suffering for so long, but glad I took care of him before the coyotes tore him up.

Had it happen to me 2 weeks ago, but it was a doe. She came running out of the bean field and stopped at 15 yards broadside. I was waiting on the buck at the bottom of the hill, when I noticed she already had a arrow sticking out both sides of her. So I waited for her to turn head head and let one fly. She made it about 60 yards and piled up. The other arrow was just below the spine and right above the lungs, no vitals. So I put my tag on and took her home, good eatin.

+1, but Im on private land. If I got a spare tag and it looks good enough to eat then I’ll tag it. If I dont then I’d just shoot it and let God’s other gritters get an easy meal.
