I have a Mathews icon 2004, 70 lbs, 80% let off. Anyway my question is. What string to I buy? Certain pound? How many strands I should make it with the type of string. I have served many bow strings , but have never bought or worried about what type of string to buy because that was my grandpas job, he is no longer capable of helping nor telling me what to do. So please help with recommendations. Thanks, jake
I have made my own full systems for many years now.
I, myself, like BCY Fibers. You can go to their site and look at the colors for your selection. bcyfibers.com When I buy the stuff I go through Lancasters Archery on line. lancasterarchery.com They will have the material but some colors may not be availible…although they do carry a lot of them.
For my string and cable I now use the BCY 8190. I use 24 strands on my string and 26 on my cable.
I use 3D for my end servings and BCY 62XS for my center servings. The .021 works best “for my nocks”.
I have used other Servings and string material from BCY for many years. I have never had any issues myself.
Hope this helps….
Also, sorry to hear your Grandpa is having a hard time.
I too like BCY been using Trophy, same as 452x but with gore added in and .014 halo for the end serving and 3D
For the roller gaurd and idler wheel serving. Make mine with 24 strands im both string and cable
One point though…The reasoning behind why I use more strands on my cable is I have to make a split yoke for the idle wheel end. 26 strands gives me more on each side of the wheel attaching to the outside axle hoops. If I am making a cable that goes cable up and back down to the main cam…or cam to cam I make it 24 as I am not splitting the count of fibers on the cable. Just a point as I know you have made these strings/cables before. But a point to think about if and when you split the total count for a yoke style cable.
