Looks like he’d be a great shooter…. in another year.
Most people around here would have shot that deer last year given the chance. Anything with antlers around here gets shot. I usually let them walk if they appear to be under 120 – especially if its an area I regularly hunt. I’ve tracked several mature bucks for 2-3 years that I’ve passed on in early archery and most of them have made it to through gun season.
Holding off isn’t for everyone, there was a real nice 10pt I hesitated on this year and missed my chance to shoot. Haven’t seen him since
I’m guessing it is a Coues’ deer rack, so in that case it is a definitly a P&Y (65″ for a typical 80″ for a nontypical)
So, yes I would definitly shoot it![/quote:21pxem0z]
are you ever going to tell us Jason?
You are so close and yet SO far away . For those that said no this is a Sitka Blacktail rack. Not only is it a rack, but it is the World Record P&Y rack for Sitka. Here is a good example of an above average rack. I hope you all enjoyed the bit of trivia
Ain’t no doubt I would let the air out of him with my bow, now rifle hunting is a different story, depends on how late in the year, etc due to the fact that I know our season in Alabama is a good bit longer than a lot of you guys.
I ‘d shoot that buck as a whitetail or a sitka. I think the trophy is more in the beauty of the cape than the rack, w/ sitkas. I love those double throat patches and red color. Not to mention where they live.
