My wife started shooting and hunted the first few years we were dating and married. Then when she got pregnant and had our little girl the bow has gotten put on the back burner. Now that the little one is shooting some and wanting to go hunting with dad. She says that she would like to get back into it. Then we can hunt and 3-D shoot as a family and spend even more time then we already do.
    I CAN”T WAIT :) :!:

She is a bowhunter. However, she is not “into it” anywhere near my level.

Thanks for the strong participation (95 votes) everybody. I think that does give the poll some degree of representation.

Clearly the most striking outcome is how few women (2) are participating. Even considering the fact that it is an under-representation by at least one, since we have 3 regulars here (Lisa, DeeDee, Ava), it’s still a very low number. I sure wish more women would be participating, and that Karen were still around. :hugs

I think it might have something to do with the fact that men are far more into the maintenance and gadgetry of archery than women are. That’s what drew me here, and I reckon many others are drawn here too to learn and exchange on the technical aspects of archery. In all the “archery couples” I know, it is always the men who do all the tuning and upkeep, and spend their free-time hours in the garages toying with the equipment. Even my couple-friends who run the local archery shop together have distinct tasks: She (a former Swiss champion) does all the PR, teaching of courses and bookkeeping. He does all the maintenance, tuning, ordering, and staying on the cutting edge of technology.

I would hope that the two women who are here for observational purposes to check on their men “wasting time and money” aren’t too hard on them. Boys need their toys. You want them to be happy don’t you? Well, please let them play. If they are happy your relationship will be much better too.
And if you feel you are not getting enough attention and are being neglected, know that it is just on the surface and not deep inside. When I first got my Switchback in the summer of ’05, and I got home from work, I’d hardly throw my wife a “Hi Honey” before I was out in the yard shooting, I was so hooked on it. It took several months for that to wear off some. Fortunately, she understands me, and I love her all the more for it.
And besides, don’t forget what many other kinds of things on the web he could be interested in and the sites (sights!) he could be visiting. You should be happy, maybe even proud, that he is only indulging in such wholesome fare. ;)

A full 90% (82) of the polled men (91) have wives/girlfriends who are supportive of their archery hobby, and 24% (22) are archers themselves as well. Wow! I think that’s pretty darn good. From some of the earlier remarks I had read, I didn’t think men enjoyed such a high level of support. Wonderful. :thumbup

As for you unfortunate 10% (9) of the polled men, who don’t have supportive wives. I can only wish you the best and hope your situation improves. If you will allow me to make a suggestion, it would be to support your wives/girlfriends whole-heartedly in their own hobbies and interests, if you are not doing so already. Do it in a “pay it forward” kinda fashion. She will appreciate that, and surely she will reciprocate eventually. [=}=]

    Hey Tox

Haven’t been on the forum much for a few months but I had a couple of minutes this morning so. . .

My wife target shoots when I ‘suggest’ it. She dislikes compounds and uses a Martin ‘stick-bow.’

She’ll scout with me and go along to fill feeders but that’s as far as the hunting goes (at least for now).

She doesn’t complain about anything I do (including archery). She’s a ‘gem.’

She’s actually the one that got me into archery. We shoot together all the time and go to a local 3d shoot every monday to see who can beat who :whistle I love being able to do something with her where we can get out, have fun and compete on an even level. She’s great and it’s just one of the many reasons I love her! Did I mention she has no problem with me buying archery gear :D :D :D :D :D :D

I have to sleep on the couch every time I go bowhunting. My wife doesn’t care for hunting at all. Don’t worry guys it was in the vows when we got married. Just kidding! No seriously I do sleep on the couch a lot come September.
