Average about 22ft in lock-ons. I go higher with climber simply because a good tree for climbing generally has less cover.

Last year, I arrowed my buck from an Ameristep Skyscrapper 20+ feet to seat. Pic is deceiving since the Oaks are HUGE!

shot all my deer at 22-30 feet depending on situation. If im out in the open in a open patch of woods no real limbs or cover I will go till my hunting hoist pulls and its about 30.

I have killed several deer at 30 but you do have to be careful about shot angle.

I normally go up 15-25ft with my stands, it just depends on the surroundings and particular tree I’m in. But here is the kicker, the last 2 bucks I’ve taken with my bow………I done it from the ground. So I guess my vote is for 0ft. Then again, I really enjoy ground hunting spot/stalk.

Like a lot of people said, it all depends on cover and the situation. I go as high as the area lets me. For instance, one of my stands is about 25′. Its on the edge of a field with good cover all around the stand. Another stand on the same land, is only about 15′. Its in a cedar swamp and that’s as high as I can get up and still be able to see and get a shot off.
