I got my flintlock out this year for the first time in 9 years. This is only the 4th deer I have ever taken with it. She came out in my food plot last night about 4:30pm at about 40yds. Of course the gun misfired on the first try and I had to re prime the flash pan. Lucky for me she stuck around long enough for me to give her some bad luck. The shot knocked her to the ground but she regained her footing and managed to make it about 75yds before piling up. The blood trail in the fresh snow was unreal. I am shooting a Lyman Great Plains flintlock in 54 caliber with a patched round ball and 90 grains of powder. Good start to a new year.
Congrats Keith!! Did you get it on video, would love to see it if so.
Didnt get any video of this one Jason. It would of been pretty cool though. These deer are so spooky right now that a matter of fact I had another larger doe come out about 20 minutes earlier and it was so quiet that at 40-50yds just the sound of me clicking the hammer back sent her into the next county.
