Well my worst Nightmare happened last night, Upon this long 3 year restoration/rebuilding process of my truck it was hit by another car, The girl is ok, she has no scratches or anything, Im sure shes feeling it today as she fliped over, My truck being lifted took no body damage, but the front bumpers plastic broke off and is hanging now, She hit my front driver side tire while it was parked out on the grass/1/4 in the dirt road just like everyone else car. So my hole axel is bent, tie rods, ball joints, hub its all trashed under there. But my truck saved her life cause there was a tree in the direction she was headed if my truck wasn’t there, that would of been less forgiving.

I wont post pictures due to the fact I only had PLPD and for that her insurance will only cover 1,000 of my damages and will have to sue for the rest, Going to try and settle out of court though, I can fix all this stuff myself so im just going to tally up parts cost, not looking to make more then the damage is you know, If this was to go to a shop its 5,000+ all day, I should be able to fix it for about 2,500 to 3000 grand, 1,000 of that will come from insurance so I feel im being pretty nice for her poor decisions, she was taken to jail so I hope she learned her lesson.

He first words to my sister when she climbed out though was is my face ok…..Lol

well.  was her face “ok”?  hahha.

good on you for being able to fix the truck yourself.  but a question:  why wont her insurance pay more than a $1k?  i dont get it.  she hit you..she is insured, they should just write you a check.  for the entire $5k.

    again, i dont get it.

Michigan is a no fault state, if you want your truck/car/suv to be covered you have to fully insure your car, I only have PLPD which covers someone elses injuries. But they have a rule called the (mini tort) which allows for me to get up to 1,000 dollars from her insurance rest is out of pocket. Or sue her for it. Because she was drunk and this was no accident, this happened because she broke the law and got behind the wheel drunk I can sue her and will probably win, If she was sober and just lost control there is a good chance that the case would be tossed and it would be just as much my fault for not spending a little extra to insure my truck.

Problem is this truck is only worth like 1,500 to 2,000 dollars to them cause of its age and miles, even with the new engine and most of the body rust fixed, I would of had to pay more a year to just have them total out the truck and give me less then what it would cost to fix it, so I was screwed from the get go for insurance with this thing, So I just put PLPD cause it saved me like 1,500 a year.

I would get an estimate from a shop for the cost for them to repair it.  When you try to settle out of court make sure and show them that estimate.  While I think its very nice of you to save them the cost of labor remember its not your fault it got damaged.  Your time is worth something maybe not what a shop would charge but still something.  In my opinion drunk drivers need punished not rewarded.

I was thinking the same thing.  That sucks your truck got smashed.

If you think you got a good chance of winning a suit and getting the rest of the money to fix the truck, don’t sell yourself short and not ask for anything for your time.  If it takes you 20 hours to fix the truck yourself, that’s 20 hours of your time that ought to be worth something.  You should be compensated for it.

I agree, but I just don’t want to ask for so much that I just get small payments an will never have enough to actually fix stuff without saving for months

Update, Due to her hitting my park truck, her insurance is going to pay for my damages up to the price of it being deemed totaled, which I believe they will just call it totaled, I blue booked my truck and its about 4-5 grand, so if i get anything close to that im a happy boy cause fixing it my self  i’ll be able to put new Dana 60 axles much stronger then my 44s, a built trans to go with my engine, and a new carb. Plus they gave me a rental truck aka 2013 ram! So guess someone is looking out after me after all!

Good to hear that you are being taken care of.  Hopefully you get enough to get everything going again.  I know you’ve got a list of what’s wrong but don’t spend all of your money on upgrades you never know exactly what is wrong until you start tearing things apart.   Also watch out I have heard of some insurance companys wanting to take possession of the totaled vehicle.  They are basically buying your vehicle from you at blue book price and you may have to buy the vehicle back from them at the salvage vehicle price if you want to keep it.  My friend had a wreck and his ranger bass boat was totaled.  They gave him 18000 for his totaled boat the blue book price, he bought the damaged boat back for 5000 because he wanted the motor off of it.  He knew the outboard should be fine and that since he had the boat since new it had never had any problem out of the motor.  Hope you get it all worked out and back on the road shortly.
