I’ve read in several articles how the whitetail deer numbers seem to be down. The kill numbers are down in some States compared to last year and last year they were down compared to last several years before that.

So I was wondering how a poll would look here.

We got this thing called blue tounge.

If you look at the map on the bottom of this link http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/wildlife/diseases/hd.asp
You’ll see the right part of the state it is pretty common. This year was especially bad.

Great link and good report on how it affected the deer herd numbers. It did here in Ohio as well in the last several years especially during the drought this year. I just read an article in Ohio Outdoor News how several hunters interviewed were saying the number of deer are down and the ODNR is reporting the deer kill is down again this year. I’m presuming it’s due to Blue Tongue in some herds and the yotes numbers are way up compared to five years ago. Predation and decease has reduced the numbers more than controlled hunting season has from what I have read.

I would add that they used to have check stations here for game. A few years back they made it a phone in check for deer. I’m pretty sure that change scewed the numbers posted do not reflect all the dear harvested. Just saying….

The total harvest numbers in WI were higher this year but I only saw three does on opening day gun season that I couldn’t shoot because the doe tags were sold out for that unit  , archery season for me was a disaster. It is what it is I guess.

I choose “You saw the same number as years past” I may have seen more then last year but atleast seen as many as last year. Was out monday and had a small herd of 10-12 come in and bed down about 80 yards from me.

I saw about the same number of deer, just a few more bucks this year. Well, that was before gun season. After gun season, the amount of all deer seen was way lower than usual…. There were a lot less deer shot around here this year. Seemed to be pockets of them…
    The end is near....

Here in Maryland the deer are all but gone. There still around in spots but nothing like it was a few years back. The bag limits are crazy due to the sorry *** insurence companys wanting all the deer dead

Definitely saw less, but was able to capitalize on the few opportunities that I had. (tagged 3). In past years, I’d have sightings once maybe every 5 or 6 outings. This year, out of about 35 to 40 evenings, I had one 8 pointer come by. Got him. Probably put in 20 to 25 mornings and as I recall saw 16 deer and I’m sure some were the same deer more than once. (does & fawns) This is a semi-residential area and some years I might only see one buck, but this year I saw 7 different racks. I don’t believe the population had decreased, just a matter of timing and luck, good or bad.

I saw fewer deer this year as did the surrounding property owners. Significantly fewer both on my property as well as on the farm and in fields. I am hoping for a great year next year with fewer deer per acre allowing the bucks to express more potential. :thumbup

I saw more deer this year than last. I also saw more bucks than does. With that being said i saw mostly younger bucks which is a good thing for my future I believe. I also saw every buck on our hit list but all were out of range. All in all it was a good season. [=}=]

I saw far fewer than years past. Even my cameras are getting about 2/3 less pictures of deer than I normally do. 1/3-1/2 my pictures are coyotes.

There were a half dozen deer found along the ponds/creek this summer. DNR says no EHD in our area, but I disagree.

    Overall a very dissapointing season.

Bad season for overall deer sightings. My cameras said there were less too. [=}=]
