Read a post a few weeks back about leaving hanging stands out and proper precautions people take….do any of you leave you climbing steps out year round and if so do you do anything to protect the straps or is it just not worth it? I’m curious if anyone has had experience with them lasting?

    As always, thanks!

I’ve had good straps last for years. However, they should be checked every year before hunting season. Loosen them and re-tighten, or you may end up where you can’t loosen them and have to cut them off. Stand straps too. Remember, those trees keep right on growing. If they don’t look good, replace them.
It's not how far you shoot, but how close you get.

I never leave mine out. I put them up in August and take them down in January. Just don’t trust leaving them out because of the straps going bad and the neighbor being where he shouldn’t be!

Probably got 20-25 sets that have been out for a couple of years. Some more 3-4 years. They are checked EVERY YEAR and replace any questionable ones. We also loosen ALL straps after the season ends.
Also, one VERY important thing… every set has a lifeline so that you are ALWAYS attached from ground to stand. Lifelines are removed every year at end of season.

I leave mine out all year and swap the straps every third season. I do loosen the straps for both the sticks and the stands at the end of the season and tighten them up again when I am doing pre-season scouting in August.

I leave mine out all year every year. Just check them out carefully in August.

I leave mine out too. I replace the straps but does anyone ever worry about the platform cables breaking(rust?)

You bring up a very good point. I had a friend fall this past season when the strap to his hang on broke. He had used it a couple weeks earlier and everything was fine. I think a squirrel might have chewed on it. I don’t use hang on stands. If I did I would also secure them with a chain and boom or at least use two straps. I prefer ladder stands.
