    Worked on the cabin yesterday, got the deck and roof done. Also got the two upright logs on the front done. Next will be cutting window openings and get them roughbucked. We kind of burned ourselves out yesterday so today is a “day off”!100_0717

    When do you end up filling in the gaps in the logs to make it snug?  You can see some light coming through…  It looks awesome!

    After we get the door and window openings cut and roughbucked , the entire cabin will have to be sanded, then we will apply a sealer/stain then we will chink all of the gaps and notches. The chink we use is kind of like caulk with sand in it called Log Jam. It is specifically made for this. Lots of work left!

    looks awesome! You have to re-chink it every so often, right? {#emotions_dlg.mathews_peace}

    No, usually after the logs settle into place, normally in 2 or 3 years, you might have to touch up some of the chink but then that is done. The preservative needs to be applied every 5 to 7 years, so there is some maintenance involved. Part of the reason we went with covered decks is to help keep the sun and moisture off the logs.

    Beautiful.  Love the cabin.  Its a dream of mine to have a small cabin on about 20 acres in the Missouri ozarks.  Just something to kick back in and relax when I get older.  Maybe sit and listen to the wood snap and pop in the fireplace as it burns while I watch the sun going down.

    Our hope is to have it weather tight enough that we can sit and listen to the wood snap and pop in the woodstove after an evening sit in the treestand this fall!

    A great looking style and it is looking better on this update, making some solid progress. Your goal for this fall is doable from what y’all did so far.
