I recently looked at ballistic charts of arrow speed and weight. It showed me that 300fps is not any better than 260fps for an 8″ kill zone of a deer.

For example, if you have a 45 yard shot and you miss judge by +/-5 yards you will miss by more than 4″+ with 260fps or 300fps, thus missing the kill. I forgot the exact numbers but it was something like 260fps at 45yds with 40yd pin is 7″ low where 300fps at 45yds with 40yd pin is 5.5″ low. Both miss the kill zone. Even taking this up to 320fps I think it was 4.5″ low. Still missing the kill zone.

I ask this because I met a 3D shooter with a #60 Monster XLR8 and 31″ DL. I saw him shoot through a chrono at 319 fps. My 60# 27.5 DL Dren only eeked out a measly 259fps with 353gr. A/C/C arrows. (4 fps slower than my 1994 #70 Ultralight with the same arrows). The shooter was a nice guy but he was telling me his impact was less than a 1/4″ low shooting 45yds with a 40yd pin or something like that. Sounded like total B.S. to me. I’m guessing it would take 400+fps to have such performance.

I’m curious how low you 300+fps shooters are at 45yds using your 40yd pin? If you reply, please include your arrow fps and inches low.

Ok, that proves this guy was full of it as expected. Now this post seems silly.

I shot my bow this morning and at 35 yds I am 4″ low using my 30 yd pin.

Ballistic charts don’t lie! You will always hear the braggers that say they use the same pin for 20 to 40 yards. The truth of that lie is that their group is 12 inches and their pin is probably set for 32 yards! …so they are missing high and low :^O

I bought Pinwheel Software for Archers and it is dead on for estimating my trajectories. Now I am in the middle of change to FMJ arrows, so I need to retune then I will be able to tell what my drop is.

…my speed will be closer to 265 with these arrows

    68 lbs
363 total grn GT ULP 22′s

    Drop at 45 yards, holding for 40, is 4.5 – 5″ low.

I went to 3D shoot and only set one pin at Gander mnt. because my first pin that I set at 20 hit in the 12 ring at 30. 3D shoot went to 35 held right on hole way through corse 30 targets 3 8s and rest were 10 and 11s. My M7 is 30 inch draw 60 lbs shooting flatline 340 shoots 317 but am switching to carbon tech cheetas 300 lighter 7.9 gpi and at my draw lenght needs stiffer spine.

So you are saying there is no drop between 20 and 35 from your bow……

There is only one way that is possible without moving your sights, and that is changing your anchor point…

It is not physically possible for an arrow to have no drop in a 15 yard range difference EVEN when you are talking about 0 to 15 yards when the arrow is at it’s fastest.

This place is getting almost as bad as I here people make Archery talk out to be cant even post on how you shoot with out people butting in and telling you you cant. Why dont you take your Athens Wild game Nation watching bow some place outher than in my business.
