Not to start a riot Here…… But I owned the 7MM..I sold it as soon as I seen how the Wifes Dinky lil .257 Roberts out performed it with a lil 117gr Kore Lokt…We both killed deer a few years back in Same spot…Both Shots were within a half ” of each other on the two deer…I traqcked Mine 300 yards..Hers Dropped on the spot..I don’t care what Anyone says..I will Never own another Magnum load….I now go back to the tusty Ol .06 or My .308…. But When She’s Not Hunting,I sneak Her .257 out :-$ :-S :^O

FWIW……. Buddy of Mine dropped a Elk in CO 15 Years ago with His .243…… Any of the Guns listed above will do the job on ANY NA Game :thumbup :thumbup[/quote:29n7d45n]

    Crap happens lol

I shot a chunky doe once @ 20 yards. Knew I put it straight through her shoulder and lungs and even though I was following bright pink, bubbly blood I was beginning to second guess what exactly had happened. 300-400 yards later I caught her in her bed and put a second slug in her. Both shots literally made one big hole & like you said, her lungs were literally soup. How she went that far is beyond me #-o

You got that right. I remember the first deer I shot with the 7mag I owned. Decent size doe @ 70 yards. Took 2 bounds and plowed face first in to the snow. Walked up on her and thought “Boy, the entrance hole isn’t really that big for a magnum load” but I about peed myself when I saw the exit hole on the other side lol

It’s more about the bullet design and matching it with the animal you intend on taking then what caliber you use.

Pick the right bullet and place your shot and a .243 will take anything in North America.

Of those you listed, I’d choose the .30-06 There is a huge variety of commercial loads for it.

    Exactly :thumbup

Like Alan stated, you can buy everything from a 55 grain groundhog load to a 220 grain big game load for the .30-06 and while the bigger calibers might be a better choice for brown bear, keep in mind that the trusty .30-30 has anchored more game than any of the bigger calibers ever will [=}=]

Out of the ones listed I chose the .30-06 simply because you can hunt everything from deer to moose with it if you pick the right load [=}=]

Ditto …. FWIW, most of my rifle hunting is done with a Browning A-Bolt Medallion in .270 Winchester. :D unless I’m feral goat hunting then it’s my Mini-14 :whistle ;)

300 ultra, especially since you can get powerlevel ammo if you dont reload.or you could go with a 338.lol,as you can see I never like to go in the woods undergunned.

338 Winchester Magnum; hands down beats any caliber mentioned above for all of North America’s wildlife.
