The World Archery Festival was held February 22 – 24 in Las Vegas Nevada. This is the most prestigious indoor tournament in the nation. Competitors come from all over the world for a chance to claim the title of Vegas Champion. When the tournament was over, Steve Boylan and David Gravlin won their respective classes.
Steve Boylan is a very accomplished archer. This weekend he added a very large title to his collection. Boylan had a final score of 898-64 and won the championship in the Senior Compound Unlimited class. Mathews had 5 of the top ten finishers in this class. The rest of the top ten included: Dennis Neely, 895-69, 4th place; Tom Coblentz, 895-65, 5th place; Dee Wilde, 895-59, 7th place and Bob Webb, 894-52 in 9th place.
In the Freestyle Bowhunter class, David Gravlin won the championship with a score of 899-40. Jeff Human finished in 5th place with a score of 896-57, Bill Hakl was 6th with a score of 895-65 and Allan Swanson was 8th with a score of 895-61.
In the Compound Unlimited Male class, there were 15 archers that shot a perfect score of 900. The shoot off cut that number down and the final two faced off. Mathews shooter Michael Braden finished in second place, with a final score of 1049-76. Mathews had 8 shooters in the shoot off. Five finished in the top ten. The rest of the top ten included: Bob Eyler, 989-90, 6th place; Morgan Lundin, 989-80, 7th place; Jeff Greshock, 989-79, 8th place and Jeff Hopkins, 989-77 in 9th place.
In the Compound Unlimited Female class, Holly Larson was the top Mathews finisher. Larson finished in 4th place with a score of 895-62. Kelly Ward finished in 5th place with a score of 895-51 and Connie Calloway was 9th with a score of 891-55.
In the Freestyle Limited Compound class, Charlie Owens was the top Mathews finisher with a score of 874-27. Owens finished in 4th place. Mathews had five of the top ten finishers. The rest of the top ten included: Emory Budzinski, 873-39, 5th place; Graham Cofield, 869-21, 7th place; Jamie Jennings, 866-32, 8th place and Bryan Bailey, 865-32, 9th place.
In the Classic Male class, Mathews shooter Brady Ellison had a strong tournament and finished in second place with a score of 875-45.
