Team Mathews Dominates ASA Virginia Pro/Am

The fourth tournament of the year for the ASA was held May 3 & 4 in Roanoke Virginia. Team Mathews turned in it’s best showing of the year so far by capturing the top three places in all four professional classes. In fact, the top 5 scores in each of the pro classes compete in a final shoot down to determine a winner. All five shooters in all four pro classes were Mathews shooters. Jeff Hopkins, Rodney Huffman, Derry Null and Kelly Ward led the way and were named champions in their respective classes.

In the Men’s Open Pro class, Jeff Hopkins won his first tournament of the year. Jeff turned in a score of 488 points to capture the title. Mathews shooters finished with nine of the top ten finishers. Jack Wallace finished in second place with a score of 484 points and Evan Baize was third with 464 points. The rest of the top ten included: Bob Eyler, 456 points, 4th place; Chris Fletcher, 455 points, 5th place; Bron Hyatt, 418 points, 7th place; Bill Sennick, 418 points, 7th place; Jeremy Jarrett, 415 points, 9th place and Terry Reynolds, 415 points, 10th place.

In the Limited Pro class, Mathews had eight of the top ten places. Leading the way was Rodney Huffman with a score of 448 points. This was Huffman’s second title of the year. Second place went to Pete Works with a score of 447 points and third was Joseph Goza with a score of 420 points. The rest of the top ten included: Brian Goza, 418 points, 4th place; Buddy Durr, 413 points, 5th place; Larry Goza, 370 points, 6th place; Charlie Owens, 369 points, 7th place and Jeff Wilson, 357 points in 9th place.

The Senior Pro class saw Mathews shooters capture eight of the top ten places. Derry Null captured his first title of the year by turning in a score of 482 points. Tom Crowe finished second with a score of 480 points and Randall Jones was third with 477 points. The rest of the top ten included: Roger Thibault, 457 points, 4th place; George Dixon, 440 points, 5th place; Eddie Benezue, 400 points, 7th place; Sid Lett, 394 points, 9th place and Charles Blankenship, 393 points in 10th place.

In the Women’s Pro class, Team Mathews finished with the ten top places. Leading the way was Kelly Ward with a score of 455 points. This was Ward’s second win of the year. Second place went to Alicia McHenry with a score of 453 points and third place was Linda Owen with a score of 437 points. Rounding out the tp ten were: Connie Calloway, 428 points, 4th place; Sherry Foreman, 423 points, 5th place; Paige English, 374 points, 6th place; Jeanna Allbritain, 374 points, 7th place; Betsy Sennick, 373 points, 8th place; Connie Griffin, 370 points, 9th place and Lucy Holderness, 365 points in 10th place.
