Baize, Owens, Crowe and McHenry Victorious in Illinois

The final ASA tournament before the Classic was held the weekend of July 26 – 28 in Belkmap Illinois. This tournament was the ASA/Mathews Solo cam Illinois Championship. There is always a little more pressure to perform well at your sponsors shoot, and Team Mathews did not disappoint. Evan Baize, Charlie Owens, Tom Crowe and Alicia McHenry all took top honors in their respective classes. Mathews shooters also swept the top three places in all four pro classes.

In the Men’s Open Pro class, Even Baize turned in a score of 500 points to capture his first win of the season. Baize held off teammate Jeff Hopkins who finished with a score of 498 points to take second place. Olin Boothe also turned in a score of 498 points to take third place. There were a total of six Mathews shooters in the top ten. The rest of the top ten included: Bob Eyler, 486 points, 4th place; Allen Conner, 418 points, 6th place and Jack Wallace II, 416 points in 9th place.

In the Limited Pro class, Mathews had nine shooters in the top ten. Leading the way was Charlie Owens, with a score of 444 points. This was Charlie’s first win of the season. Joining Owens in the top ten were: Brian Goza, 438 points, 2nd place; Joseph Goza, 438 points, 3rd place; Gene Curry, 434 points, 4th place; Larry Goza, 433 points, 5th place; Cody Odell, 373 points, 6th place; Ronnie Mize, 370 points, 7th place; Emory Budzinski, 367 points, 8th place and Rodney Huffman, 366 points in 10th place.

For the third time this season, Tom Crowe finished with the top spot in the Senior Pro class. Crowe turned in a score of 481 points to capture the top spot. There were a total of nine Mathews shooters in the top ten. The rest of the top ten included: Derry Null, 460 points, 2nd place; Roger Thibault, 454 points, 3rd place; Eddie Benezue and Larry Odell each shot a score of 449 points to tie for 4th place; Ronnie Smart, 401 points, 6th place; Jackie Caudle, 399 points, 7th place; Phil Long, 398 points, 8th place and Randall Jones, 392 points in 10th place.

The Women’s Pro class saw Alicia McHenry win her third shoot of the season. McHenry turned in a score of 481 points, which was 8 points better then her teammate Joella Bates. Bates score of 473 points was enough to finish in second place. Mathews shooters once again finished with all ten of the top spots. In fact, Mathews shooters finished in the top 18 places. The rest of the top ten included: Ginger Morehead, 450 points, 3rd place; Kelly Ward, 448 points, 4th place; Jeanna Wallace, 430 points, 5th place; Linda Owen, 393 points, 6th place; Linda Beck, 380 points, 7th place; Brandi Boggs, 379 points, 8th place; Jennie Richardson, 374 points, 9th place and Susan Thompson, 374 points in 10th place.

The next shoot is August 15 – 18 and is the IBO World Championship. The shoot is held in Snowshoe Mountain, West Virginia.
